Let’s get to the details

WHAT TO WEAR

When coordinating outfits, I want you to ask yourself a few honest questions.

02. DOES THIS FEEL COMFORTABLE?
Can you move, sit, and work in it without constant adjusting? If straps fall, fabrics cling, or you feel restricted, it will distract you during the session and show up in the photos. Comfort + confidence = effortless imagery.

01. DO I FEEL CONFIDENT IN THIS?
Your outfit should make you feel like the most polished, magnetic version of yourself. When you feel like a ten, it shows, and that confidence is exactly what your clients will connect with.

03. WOULD THIS LOOK COHESIVE ON MY WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA FEED?
Think of your outfits as an extension of your brand’s visual identity. Do the colors and styles align with your branding palette? Would they flow naturally on your Instagram grid, LinkedIn profile, or website homepage? Choose pieces that look timeless, elevated, and aligned with your brand’s aesthetic.

04. DOES THIS FEEL TRUE TO ME AND MY BRAND?
Ask yourself: Does this outfit reflect the way I want my audience to perceive me? Whether you want to convey authority, creativity, warmth, or approachability, your wardrobe should reinforce that message.

STYLE TIPS

Choosing What to Wear for Your Branding Session

Choosing what to wear can feel overwhelming, but don’t worry, I’ve got you. The goal is to select outfits that not only photograph beautifully, but that make you feel confident, comfortable, and aligned with your brand. Below are tips to help you style your session with ease, no fashion background required.

Cohesion vs. Matching

Think cohesive, not identical. Instead of wearing the same suit or blazer in every look, create variation within your brand palette. Choose colors and textures that flow together across your gallery. For example, if your brand palette includes navy, cream, and warm neutrals, you might pair a tailored navy blazer with cream trousers for one look, then switch to a soft blouse and tan jacket for another. Each outfit is different, but they all feel connected.

Choose Timeless, Brand-Aligned Colors

Colors that align with your brand palette and complement your skin tone always photograph beautifully. Neutral tones like cream, taupe, navy, camel, and black are versatile, while accent colors like olive, burgundy, or dusty blue can tie into your brand identity. The goal is timeless over trendy so your images stay fresh for years to come and integrate seamlessly across your website and social platforms.

Textures, Fit, and Movement

Opt for well-fitted, high-quality fabrics that look polished on camera. Textures like linen, silk, knits, or structured cotton add visual interest without distraction. Movement-friendly pieces such as a flowy blouse, an open blazer, or layered outfits create variety and help you look natural and approachable on camera.

Layering and Accessories

Layers create dimension and flexibility during your session. Blazers, cardigans, jackets, or scarves can be added or removed for quick variation between looks. Accessories should feel intentional and professional: a statement watch, simple jewelry, clean shoes, or subtle glasses. Keep them minimal so they enhance rather than overwhelm your look.

Final Tip: Comfort + Confidence

The best outfits are the ones that feel both authentic to your brand and effortless to wear. If you are comfortable and confident, that energy will show in every single image. Outfits should reflect how you want to be seen by your audience: polished, approachable, and true to you.

WHAT TO AVOID

Every Brand is Unique, and So Are You

While I’ll share styling tips to help your images feel elevated and timeless, I also believe in honoring your personal brand. What you wear should feel like you, while also aligning with the message and energy you want to communicate. The suggestions below are here to guide you, not limit you. If something fits your brand vision (even if it bends the “rules”) we’ll make it work.

These notes are simply here to help avoid visual distractions and keep the focus where it belongs: on you, your brand story, and the connection you’re building with your audience.

Bold Logos or Distracting Graphics

Unless your logo is part of the intentional vision for your brand session (like branded uniforms, product packaging, or merch), steer clear of clothing with large logos or busy graphics. These tend to pull the eye away from your expressions and body language. Clean lines, solid colors, or subtle textures typically keep the emphasis on you, not your wardrobe.

Neon or Harsh Colors

Neon tones (highlighter yellow, lime green, electric pink) can cast unflattering color tones onto skin and look out of place on most websites and feeds. If bold color is a key part of your brand identity, choose richer or more muted tones from your palette that still stand out but feel polished on camera.

Tiny, Repetitive Patterns

Micro-stripes, tight plaids, or small repetitive prints can create distortion (moire) in digital images, especially on screens. This can make your gallery feel less refined. Larger patterns, color-blocking, or textured fabrics photograph beautifully while avoiding these issues.

Overly Stiff or Ill-Fitting Clothing

Outfits that are too rigid, uncomfortable, or require constant adjusting can limit your movement and confidence on camera. Instead, select tailored yet comfortable pieces that let you sit, walk, laugh, and interact naturally. Think polished blazers with ease of movement, flowing blouses, or structured dresses with stretch.

In Short

Choose pieces that support your brand story, not compete with it. Your wardrobe should be the frame that highlights your professionalism, personality, and vision. Whether you’re aiming for authority, approachability, or creativity, your clothing should reinforce that message and feel authentically you.

HAIR, SKIN & NAILS

Little things that help you feel confident, polished, and camera-ready.

These small details may feel subtle, but they have a big impact on your final gallery. This isn’t about perfection, it’s about helping you show up feeling like the most confident, put-together version of yourself, because that confidence is what translates on camera.

Here are a few simple ways to prep with intention (and enjoy a little self-care along the way):

Nails
Keep them clean and intentional. A fresh polish in a timeless, neutral shade (like nude, blush, or soft gray) always photographs beautifully, but a classic red or a shade that ties into your brand colors can also work. Avoid chipped polish, as it’s one of the few things that can’t be retouched later.

Spray/False Tanning
Use with caution. Uneven fading, streaks, or patchiness (especially around wrists, ankles, or elbows) will be noticeable in photos. If you’re unsure, it’s better to skip it—natural skin tones photograph best.

Hair Color
Avoid dramatic changes right before your session. Stick with what feels authentic and aligns with your brand. A fresh touch-up of your usual shade can give you a polished boost without surprises.

Hair Style
Hair that moves is magic. Soft waves, natural texture, or styles with volume tend to photograph best. Overly stiff or overly styled looks can feel less approachable on camera. Aim for effortless, not overdone.

Skin Prep
If your skin allows, gently exfoliate the night before and moisturize well. This helps makeup apply smoothly and gives your complexion a natural glow.

Lips
Keep them hydrated leading up to your session. Dry lips show more on camera. A little balm or gloss can go a long way.

Hands, Arms & Legs
If skin will be visible, moisturize the day of your session. Hydrated skin photographs more evenly.

Feet & Shoes
If wearing open-toed heels or flats, make sure toenails are clean and neatly polished. Choose a neutral or brand-aligned color you’ll still love years from now.

Shine Control
If your skin tends to get oily, bring blotting sheets or translucent powder for light touch-ups during the session. This keeps you looking fresh and professional throughout.

✨ These details may feel small, but together they ensure your images look elevated, cohesive, and professional—just like your brand.

Lifestyle & Personality

Props that reflect your personality and values make your brand more relatable and human. Think about what clients would see if they walked into your studio, shop, or home office.

  • Favorite books, coffee mugs, or candles

  • Florals, greenery, or a simple vase arrangement

  • A cozy throw, blanket, or chair that fits your aesthetic

For Product-Based Businesses

If you sell physical items, showcasing them in action is key.

  • Multiple product variations or collections

  • Packaging + unboxing elements

  • Tools of creation (paintbrushes, scissors, mixer, etc.)

  • Lifestyle staging items (styled trays, fabrics, seasonal accents)

For Service-Based Businesses

You may not sell a product, but you are the brand—show clients the experience of working with you.
